Apple has filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in California federal court, alleging that the AI company stole trade secrets while developing consumer hardware for ChatGPT. The suit names two former Apple employees now at OpenAI as defendants: chief hardware officer Tang Tan, who previously worked on the iPhone and Apple Watch, and former electrical engineer Chang Liu. Apple alleges Tan directed job candidates to bring physical Apple parts to interviews and that Liu accessed and downloaded confidential hardware files after leaving the company. Apple is seeking damages and an injunction barring OpenAI from using the disputed information.
