SpaceX’s xAI division launched Grok 4.5, a new model built for coding, agentic tasks and knowledge work rather than general consumer chat. CEO Elon Musk described it as an Opus-class model, but faster, more token-efficient and lower cost, citing positive results from beta testing at SpaceX and Tesla. The release follows SpaceX’s public listing and its acquisition of AI coding startup Cursor, part of a broader push to expand beyond launch and connectivity services. Despite the launch, the Grok app’s daily user base has fallen 28% since April, with its market share dropping to 8.7% from 10.6% over the same period.
