OpenAI released its GPT-5.6 family of models on July 9, 2026, comprising three tiers: Sol, a flagship version; Terra, a mid-tier balance of cost and quality; and Luna, a faster budget option. The company said Sol is 54% more token-efficient on agentic coding tasks than its predecessor and is being positioned as OpenAI’s strongest model yet for cybersecurity defense work such as threat modeling and code review. Alongside the models, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Work, an agent that gathers context across a user’s connected apps and files to autonomously produce documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Pricing varies by tier, with Sol costing $5 per million input tokens and $30 per million output tokens.
