Over 200 economists and industry leaders, including sixteen Nobel Prize winners, signed a letter published July 15, 2026 warning that artificial intelligence could transform the economy at an unprecedented pace over the next decade. The letter, titled “We Must Act Now,” cautions that while AI may create new opportunities and raise living standards, it could also cause large-scale job displacement if left unmanaged. The signatories call on policymakers and technology leaders to develop strategies and institutions now to ensure the transition benefits society rather than causing widespread economic disruption.
