Tom Blomfield, co-founder of digital bank Monzo and payments company GoCardless, announced on July 13, 2026 that he is taking a leave of absence from Y Combinator to join Anthropic as a member of technical staff on its compute team. He will work alongside Tom Brown, Anthropic’s co-founder and chief compute officer, on infrastructure underpinning the Claude model family. The hire extends Anthropic’s broad 2026 recruiting push, which has also brought in high-profile names such as OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy and Nobel laureate John Jumper.
