Anthropic released Claude Opus 5, a new model positioned between Opus 4.8 and the higher-tier Fable 5, priced the same as its predecessor at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens. The company says the model achieves near frontier-level performance on coding, knowledge work, and scientific research tasks while improving cost efficiency and reasoning reliability. Opus 5 is now the default model on Claude Max and the strongest option on Claude Pro, available via the Claude API, Claude.ai, and enterprise platforms, alongside a faster variant that runs about 2.5 times normal speed.
