Microsoft is negotiating with TSMC to secure production capacity for more than 300,000 of its custom Maia 300 AI chips for delivery in 2027, according to a report published August 10, 2026. The company plans to unveil the Maia 300 this fall and aims to eventually produce enough of the custom accelerators to power gigawatts of Azure cloud capacity. The move reflects Microsoft’s effort to reduce its dependence on Nvidia and catch up with Amazon and Google, which have more mature custom silicon programs.
