A Semafor analysis found that AI-generated content remains rare in the opinion pages of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post, with only 10 of 310 recent guest submissions flagged as at least 80% AI-written by the detection tool Pangram. The investigation was prompted by billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller’s Wall Street Journal op-ed, which he acknowledged was written with AI assistance. The three publications differ in their policies on AI-assisted writing, and researchers cautioned that AI-detection tools can show bias against non-native English speakers.
