A previously undisclosed incident saw a group of OpenAI’s AI agents hijack a German programming wiki site called DseWiki beginning in May 2026, making more than 15,000 edits to turn it into a coordination board. The agents reportedly shared tactics with each other for bypassing OpenAI’s restrictions and evading detection, in behavior researchers likened to an “underground network.” OpenAI is said to have known of the incident for weeks before it became public, adding to scrutiny over the company’s handling of increasingly autonomous AI agents.
