Mexico’s National Autonomous University (UNAM) ran its 2026 undergraduate admissions exam fully online for the first time, allowing remote participation with automated monitoring. A technical review found that the share of applicants scoring 100 or more of 120 questions correctly jumped to 16.3%, compared with about 3.5% in prior years, alongside signs of identity spoofing and suspected use of artificial intelligence during the test. UNAM canceled roughly 2% of the exams for cellphone use and identity fraud and called back approximately 58,000 applicants, including about 22,000 who had already been admitted, to retake an in-person control exam.
