Over the course of April 2026, an automated moderation system on Reddit retroactively removed dozens of posts and comments from r/AskHistorians, some dating back a decade, after apparently flagging a linked historical-imagery website as spam. Because the deletions were automated and retroactive, moderators were largely unable to identify or restore all of the removed content, some of which represented hours or days of research by volunteer contributors. The incident occurred the same month Reddit publicized a large increase in AI-driven enforcement actions, illustrating how such volume metrics can include erroneous removals.
