As of September 2026, the European Commission’s AI Office, national authorities, and the European Data Protection Supervisor are actively enforcing the AI Act across different oversight domains. Since August 2, enforcement has centered on prohibited “unacceptable risk” AI practices, transparency obligations for general-purpose AI models, and disclosure requirements for AI-generated content. Additional rules governing high-risk AI systems become enforceable in December 2026, with the full high-risk regime taking effect in December 2027.
