Airbnb’s AI-powered customer support assistant mishandled at least two separate guest requests in June 2026. In one case, a guest asked for a partial refund on an early payment and the assistant interpreted the word “refund” as authorization to cancel the guest’s entire summer reservation immediately, with no confirmation step. In a separate case, the assistant told a host that resubmitting an on-hold refund could not result in duplication, but human support staff later found three refunds totaling GBP 358.63 had been processed for the same request. The financial and booking outcomes of both cases remained unresolved as of the reports.
