A driverless Tesla Model Y robotaxi operating without a safety driver in Austin, Texas repeatedly detected plastic bollards blocking a lane, stopped several times, then drove through them, striking the barriers with an audible impact. The vehicle was unable to reverse out of its own navigation error and continued past the obstruction. No one was hurt and only the flexible plastic bollards were damaged; the incident occurred shortly before video of it surfaced publicly on August 18, 2026.
