Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, describing it as the strongest-performing model the company has tested to date. The model matches the performance of Anthropic’s larger Fable model on most tasks while output tokens are priced at $20 per million, down from $25 for the prior Opus 5, and it generates responses more than 30% faster. Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5 versions are expected in the coming weeks. The release follows CEO Dario Amodei’s recent public call to deliberately slow the pace of AI capability advances to give safety research more time to keep up.
