A UN Women report launched at UNGA81 finds that women hold only around 22% of AI professional jobs globally and fewer than 14% of senior leadership positions shaping the technology. The report states women are also roughly 20% less likely than men to use generative AI tools, pointing to a widening usage gap alongside the workforce gap. It further links AI to rising technology-facilitated violence, noting that AI featured in nearly one in four reported online attacks against women human-rights defenders, activists, and journalists.
