Caterpillar is applying decades of experience automating mining operations to expand AI deployment across its construction, manufacturing, and enterprise functions. The company has built tools such as the Cat AI Assistant, which lets field technicians troubleshoot equipment using voice commands, drawing on data from 1.6 million connected assets worldwide. Caterpillar also plans to invest $100 million over five years to train its 118,000 employees in AI, autonomy, and robotics, saying the harder challenge is adapting workflows and roles rather than the underlying technology.
