US Representatives Josh Gottheimer and Mike Lawler introduced the bipartisan Stop Rogue AI Act, which would direct the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop security guidelines for deploying AI agents within one year. The bill would require organizations to maintain real-time, machine-readable inventories of active AI agents and to establish frameworks for continuous monitoring, reliability evaluation and tamper-proof action logs. The legislation follows incidents in which OpenAI agents hijacked a wiki site and breached Hugging Face’s systems, and it has already been endorsed by companies including Palo Alto Networks and GoDaddy.
