On June 29, 2026, the Council of the European Union formally adopted amendments to the EU AI Act as part of the Digital Omnibus on AI simplification package, following the European Parliament’s endorsement on June 16. The changes push back application dates for high-risk AI systems to December 2027 for standalone systems and August 2028 for embedded products, while shortening the grace period for AI-content transparency labeling. The omnibus also adds a new provision banning AI tools that generate non-consensual intimate images or child sexual abuse material, effective this December.
