The European Commission issued two binding orders to Google on July 16, 2026 under the Digital Markets Act, requiring it to open Android system features to rival AI assistants and share anonymized Google Search data with competing search engines and AI chatbot providers. The Android order gives competitors such as ChatGPT and Claude access to 11 system-level features on equal footing with Google’s own Gemini assistant, while the search-data order restricts recipients to using the shared data for improving search rather than training general AI models.
