A study of 1,815 Canadian adults found that roughly half consider a partner’s use of a romantic AI companion to be infidelity, with about three-quarters saying they would react negatively—reactions comparable to those toward dating-app use. Nearly two-thirds of AI companion users reported hiding the activity from their partners, and cisgender women and Gen Z respondents judged the behavior more harshly, while people in nonmonogamous relationships were far less likely to view it as cheating.
