Speaking on a podcast on September 1, 2026, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman confirmed the company will ‘definitely do a humanoid’ robot in addition to specialized hardware for data centers and other form factors. Altman argued that matching human anatomy is necessary because the physical world — doorways, keyboards, kitchens — was built for human bodies. OpenAI’s near-term focus remains industrial and data-center automation, but Altman described a personal household robot as a longer-term goal, saying ‘I think everyone should have a personal robot.’
