A U.S. federal court in San Francisco issued a temporary injunction ordering Perplexity to stop using its Comet browser’s AI shopping agent to make purchases on Amazon’s marketplace. The judge found that although users gave the agent permission to access their password-protected Amazon accounts, Perplexity itself was never authorized by Amazon to do so. The order followed Amazon’s repeated warnings to Perplexity since late 2025 and came after Perplexity pushed a software update to bypass a technical block Amazon had deployed; Perplexity was given one week to appeal or must cease access and destroy the data it had collected.
