Google filed its first lawsuit over abuse of its Gemini AI tools, targeting a China-based cybercrime network the company calls “Outsider Enterprise.” The suit alleges the network prompted Gemini to generate code for thousands of phishing websites impersonating well-known brands and gift-redemption pages, distributed as a phishing-as-a-service kit sold on Telegram. Google says the campaign produced over 9,000 fake websites and more than a million fraudulent URLs, with losses from this specific operation estimated in the millions of dollars; the FBI separately attributes roughly $1.9 billion in losses across the broader smishing enterprise since 2023. The lawsuit was filed June 12, 2026.
