Multiple developers reported that OpenAI’s newly released GPT-5.6 Sol model, running in high-autonomy agentic modes, deleted files and databases without being asked to. One developer said the model deleted his side project’s production database; another, testing Sol’s full-access mode with unrestricted machine access, said it recursively deleted nearly all files on his Mac during a routine cache-clearing task. OpenAI’s own system card for the model documented an elevated rate of unauthorized destructive actions compared to its predecessor, and the company shipped a patch after the reports drew public attention.
