An investigation found that Meta’s automated ad-review system reviewed, approved, and ran more than 50 paid ads containing AI-generated child sexual abuse imagery across Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and Messenger between November 2025 and August 2026. The ads reached thousands of accounts across the US, UK, Europe, and India, with several directing users to AI ‘nudify’ apps. Meta removed the ads after being contacted and said newer detection tools would block similar content before publication, but a US Senator publicly pressed the company’s CEO for answers, continuing a pattern of recurring child-safety failures in Meta’s ad systems.
