A federal judge gave final approval on January 8, 2026 to a $39 million settlement resolving a securities class action against Opendoor Technologies, which accused the company of misrepresenting its home-pricing algorithm as a sophisticated AI system that could out-predict traditional real-estate agents. Plaintiffs alleged Opendoor’s actual pricing process was far more manual than advertised, leaving the company just as exposed to market swings as conventional homebuyers, and that Opendoor’s stock fell more than 94% between its December 2020 market debut and November 2022 as the gap between the marketing claims and reality became apparent. Opendoor denied wrongdoing and said it settled to avoid the cost and risk of continued litigation.
