Spotify and music rights company Kobalt announced a licensing agreement on August 13 covering an upcoming AI-powered tool for fan-made covers and remixes on the platform. The deal lets participating Kobalt songwriters share in the revenue their songs generate through the tool, which will be offered as a paid add-on for premium subscribers. It is Spotify’s first agreement for the tool with a music publisher outside Universal Music Group, following earlier deals with UMG and Merlin.
