Tencent has reportedly signed a five-year, roughly $7 billion lease for about 100,000 advanced AI chips from Oracle, housed in Oracle data centres in Southeast Asia, according to the Financial Times. The deal requires an upfront payment of about 30 percent of the total value. The lease comes as Tencent’s cash flow turned negative in the second quarter, which the company attributed to heavy AI infrastructure spending and compute prepayments. Oracle shares barely moved on the report, despite having fallen roughly 29.5 percent earlier in the year.
