The FCC announced on July 28, 2026 that it will bar imports of new Chinese-made humanoid and quadruped robots, along with certain connected power inverters, citing national security and supply-chain risk. Officials said such devices could collect data exploitable by “malign actors” or be remotely commandeered to threaten critical infrastructure. Unitree, which holds roughly a fifth of the global humanoid robot market and recently partnered with Nvidia on Blackwell chip integration, is expected to be hit hardest. The rule applies only to models not yet authorized for import, though the FCC retains power to revoke existing authorizations.
