OpenAI has eliminated daily text chat limits for free ChatGPT users and switched their default model from GPT-5.5 Instant to GPT-5.6 Luna, which the company says produces 62% fewer factual errors in testing. Free and Go-tier users will also gain access to a new Think button that triggers deeper reasoning on individual messages, while paid subscribers receive a reasoning slider for GPT-5.6 Sol. The changes are aimed at broadening ChatGPT’s free-tier appeal amid growing competition from rival AI chatbots.
