About 80 UK performers, including Nicola Coughlan, Siobhán McSweeney, Hugh Bonneville, and Matt Lucas, have signed an open letter backing the “Save Our Voices Now” campaign, which calls for legal ownership rights over individuals’ voices against unauthorized AI cloning. The letter, addressed to Prime Minister Andy Burnham, asks that the burden of obtaining consent fall on platforms and AI developers rather than on individuals. Campaign founder Peter Caulfield noted that a voice can be cloned in as little as three seconds, and cited a finding that 28% of UK adults report having been targeted by a voice-cloning scam.
