Emerald AI, Google, and Nvidia announced the launch of the AI Energy Management Alliance (AEMA) on September 16, 2026, a coalition aimed at building AI data centers that can dynamically adjust their power draw in response to electrical grid conditions rather than acting as fixed, always-on loads. The alliance launched with 18 additional partners, including Anthropic, National Grid, AES, Constellation, and NRG, and is targeting flexibility across 100 gigawatts of US grid capacity. Google said it has already committed 1 gigawatt of reducible power demand through utility agreements as part of the effort.
