Waymo announced on September 14, 2026 that it plans to launch a commercial robotaxi service in Tokyo in 2027, in partnership with taxi operator Nihon Kotsu and ride-hailing app GO. The service, Waymo’s first commercial move into Asia, will start with a small fleet and scale to roughly 100 Jaguar I-Pace vehicles, accessible through both the GO and Waymo apps. The launch remains contingent on regulatory approval from Japanese national and local authorities.
