Brazil’s government announced roughly 2.3 billion reais, or about $444 million, in new investment to build out the country’s artificial intelligence infrastructure. Of that, 1.3 billion reais will fund a supercomputing project in Rio de Janeiro developed with China’s Huawei and iFlytek, while about 1 billion reais will go toward a separate supercomputer tender in Rio Grande do Norte that officials expect Nvidia to win. Brazilian officials said the split is designed to avoid dependence on any single company, technology, or country while preserving data sovereignty.
