General Motors plans to launch its own proprietary in-vehicle AI assistant later in 2026, built with an unnamed large language model provider and designed to integrate deeply with OnStar and vehicle telemetry data. The system is intended to handle capabilities that Google’s Gemini, which GM began rolling out earlier in 2026, cannot access, such as predictive maintenance and real-time diagnostics. The new assistant will run alongside Gemini rather than replace it, and will support combined commands like a ‘kids setting’ that simultaneously adjusts music, seats, climate, and door locks.
