More than 200 economists and AI researchers, including 16 Nobel laureates, have signed an open letter organized by Stanford University calling for immediate action to prepare for artificial intelligence’s economic disruption. The letter warns that AI capabilities may advance dramatically within the coming decade, potentially causing widespread job displacement while also offering opportunities to improve living standards. Organizer Anton Korinek said “the window for action is narrowing,” urging governments to establish policies and institutions to ensure AI benefits society rather than increasing inequality between nations.
