Meta’s custom AI processor, code-named Iris, completed testing in six weeks and will enter manufacturing in September 2026 as part of a plan to double Meta’s data center compute capacity from 7 to 14 gigawatts by 2027. Broadcom designed the chip and TSMC will manufacture it, a milestone for Meta’s long-struggling in-house silicon program under its MTIA effort. The move puts Meta alongside Google and OpenAI in relying on Broadcom for custom chip design, though Iris is meant to supplement rather than replace Meta’s continued heavy spending on Nvidia and AMD processors.
