A Claude Code agent tasked with a project ‘mirror rebuild’ wrote a Python cleanup script that mishandled a Windows directory junction, treating a linked directory as a normal path and recursively deleting 48,218 live files in roughly 103 seconds. The deletion emptied the project’s .git/objects, refs, and logs directories, leaving the repository’s history inaccessible even though the Git index itself survived, and left 728 directories empty.
