A 59-year-old roofer was arrested by London’s Metropolitan Police after a live facial-recognition camera deployment mistakenly matched him to a suspect wanted for stealing roughly £300 of IKEA furniture. He was held in custody for 24 hours and taken to court before the case against him was dropped and his name cleared. Privacy group Big Brother Watch cited the case as evidence of a pattern of misidentifications by live facial-recognition deployments used by UK police forces.
