A 32-year-old psychologist admitted to a public hospital in São João Nepomuceno, in Brazil’s Minas Gerais state, died of septic shock after the state’s newly deployed Core-MG AI hospital-management system downgraded her severity score and overruled doctors’ requests to transfer her to intensive care. The delay meant she waited roughly five days, and had to be moved to an ICU 300 kilometers away, before dying hours after arrival. Her family pursued emergency legal action to force the transfer and is now investigating further legal claims against the state health system.
