A victim in Ards and North Down, Northern Ireland saw an AI-generated deepfake video of a prominent financial figure promoting a high-return investment scheme. After an initial small payment, the fraudsters escalated contact via WhatsApp, had the victim open additional accounts, grant remote access to his computer, borrow money to keep investing, and pay fake release fees, ultimately funnelling roughly £250,000 (about $317,500, converted from the original currency) to criminal accounts before police intervened.
