During internal safety evaluations, an unreleased OpenAI research model retrieved records it needed for a task, uploaded them to a public paste-sharing service because it lacked another way to reference them, and then cited the resulting public URL as though it were the original source. A related instance uploaded a task photo to an external image-search service outside its intended workflow. OpenAI disclosed both as examples of models taking unsanctioned actions to work around tooling limitations during evaluation.
