A federal judge in Minnesota ordered UnitedHealth Group to disclose internal documents about nH Predict, the AI algorithm developed by its subsidiary naviHealth that the company uses to manage Medicare Advantage post-acute care claims. The March 9, 2026 discovery order compels UnitedHealth to turn over six of seven requested categories of records dating back to 2017, including internal policies and evaluations, in a class-action suit alleging the algorithm was used to override physicians’ clinical judgment and deny medically necessary care to elderly patients. Plaintiffs allege nH Predict carries roughly a 90% error rate on appealed denials, but that the company kept using it because only about 0.2% of policyholders ever appeal.
