A scammer posing as the Secretary to the Cabinet contacted a Singaporean businessman via WhatsApp and invited him to a fabricated Zoom video conference populated by AI deepfakes of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, and other officials discussing a fake funding arrangement. Believing the conference was genuine, the victim transferred roughly S\$4.9 million (about US$3.8 million) before uncovering the deception. Singapore Police publicly released the deepfake footage, noting flaws such as unsynchronized lip movements and distorted video artifacts, and issued a joint advisory with financial and cybersecurity regulators.
